As predicted by the weatherman, the sun did indeed shine on Southend Bandstand on Saturday afternoon. An audience turned up to see The Seasiders and the Southend Poetry group, and they didn’t all get up and go when the band had finished, always a good sign!
You can see photos & read a bit about the event here http://www.southendpoetry.co.uk/bandstand2009.htm
The audience not only stuck around but clapped and laughed (in the right places) and enjoyed themselves, all in all a good day for poetry in Essex.

Fair’s fair

Saturday 6th june saw me manning a stall at the Southend Book Fair, with Adrian Green & Dorothy Turner from the Southend Poetry group.

It was very quite and we were not sure whether it was the nice weather, or difficulty in finding the way through the venue that kept the numbers down. However we gave a good reading to a small but appreciative audience.
I also watched an enjoyable perfomance by the ‘Squeaky Clean’ theatre group, they did some extracts of their upcoming show Woyzeck http://www.remotegoat.co.uk/event_view.php?uid=76871
